Students across The Overlook’s coverage area are returning to classrooms this month as the 2026-27 school year gets underway.

The Hunter-Tannersville Central School District and Saugerties Central School District are the first to welcome students back on Thursday, Sept. 3. Saugerties schools will then close Friday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day weekend.

Classes in the Onteora Central School District, which serves Woodstock, Olive, Shandaken, and part of Hurley, begin Tuesday, Sept. 8. Students in the Kingston City School District, which serves the remainder of Hurley, also return Sept. 8.

Three independent schools open Wednesday, Sept. 9: Woodstock Day School, Zena Democratic School, and Middle Way School.

The Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School District begins classes Thursday, Sept. 10. Families can find the district’s complete calendar and its prekindergarten-through-12th-grade school supply list on its website.
