The storm could bring 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail to Phoenicia, Big Indian, Oliverea, Pine Hill, Highmount, Belleayre Mountain, and surrounding communities.

The National Weather Service extended a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Ulster County until 7:45 p.m. Thursday as a storm carrying damaging winds and hail moved toward Shandaken.

At 6:44 p.m., the storm was near Fleischmanns, about 19 miles southwest of Hunter, and moving east at 10 mph. Radar indicated the storm could produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

The warning covers Phoenicia, Shandaken, Allaben, Big Indian, Oliverea, Pine Hill, Highmount, Belleayre Mountain, and surrounding areas. Hail could damage vehicles, while strong winds could damage roofs, siding, and trees.

An earlier tornado warning covering neighboring Hardenburgh expired at 6:45 p.m. Radar had detected rotation near Turnwood, but no tornado was confirmed.
