On Friday, May 23, from 4 to 9 p.m., local artist Sue Zann will hold an opening reception for her show “Anything Goes—A Retrospective” at Small Talk, an intimate cocktail bar located at 1 Tinker Street.

The exhibition takes place in a small pop-up gallery above the bar, a space provided by Small Talk owner Mark Landsman.

Zann will be exhibiting and selling fifty original works, as well as offering small pieces and art cards.

“I produced a lot of art during Covid,” she said.

Her work spans a range of media and techniques. She creates abstract compositions incorporating collage elements like Asian coins, thread, fabric, and calligraphy, using materials including watercolor, pastel, acrylics, alcohol ink, and gold leaf.

Also on display are pieces from her copper collection: 8-by-8-inch works with 3-by-3-inch interiors, combining burnished copper—“that when heated up changes color”—with natural wood and handmade origami paper.

“I like my work to be vibrant,” she said. “A work of beauty can transform the heart,” she added, Something we all can use these days.

The show will remain open Saturday from 12 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. Small Talk will be open Friday and Saturday from 4 to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 11:30 p.m., serving cocktails and small plates throughout the weekend.
