Residents in Saugerties and Woodstock joined thousands of protesters across the U.S. on Saturday in a coordinated demonstration against President Trump, marking the largest public opposition since his second term began in January.

The protests, known as the “Hands Off” rallies, expressed disapproval of Trump’s recent policy actions, including controversial tariffs, cuts to federal spending, and aggressive immigration enforcement. Demonstrators in Woodstock and Saugerties highlighted concerns over threats to democratic rights and social services, echoing broader national grievances.

One protester summarized local sentiment, saying, “We’re losing our democratic rights,” pointing to Trump’s federal budget cuts affecting education and retirement benefits.

Trump spent the weekend golfing in Florida and did not publicly respond to the demonstrations, which extended internationally to cities including London and Paris. The White House maintained Trump is protecting essential programs and accused Democrats of endangering federal services.
