Shandaken Deputy Supervisor Robert Drake secured the Democratic nomination for District 22 of the Ulster County Legislature on Tuesday, beating incumbent Kathy Nolan with 59.64% of the vote compared with Nolan’s 40.36%. District 22 encompasses the towns of Shandaken, Olive, Denning and Hardenburgh.
Some 847 of the district’s 3,183 registered Democrats voted in the primary, a turnout of 26.61%. Drake will advance to the general election in November.

- New York State Comptroller: Incumbent Democrat Thomas P. DiNapoli defeated challengers Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle in the party primary, receiving 61.2% of the vote compared with Warshaw’s 18.73% and Goyle’s 12.9% with 12,704 of 12,853 districts reporting statewide. DiNapoli netted 62% of the vote in Greene County and 64.97% in Ulster, preliminary results show.
- 19th Congressional District: Otsego County Republican Peter Oberacker defeated challenger Alex Portelli in the party’s primary for the 19th Congressional District, with 74.15% of the vote to Portelli’s 21.12% with 647 of 652 districts reporting. The district includes all of Greene County and part of Ulster, as well as all of Broome, Chenango, Columbia, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, Tompkins, and parts of Cortland and Rensselaer Counties. Oberacker received 75.2% of the vote in Ulster County and 78.49% in Greene County. Oberacker will face incumbent Democratic Representative Josh Riley in the Nov. 3 general election.
- 51st State Senate District: Schoharie County Republican Christopher Tague won his party’s primary for the 51st State Senate District with 51.32% of the vote, compared with 43.83% for Sullivan County challenger Terry Bernardo. In Ulster County, Bernardo won with 53.74% of the vote to Tague’s 43.85%. The 51st District includes the town of Olive, as well Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie and Sullivan Counties and parts of Ulster, Broome, and Chenango Counties. Tague will face Democrat Michele Frazer in November.
- 102nd Assembly District: Delaware County Democrat Janet Tweed secured the party’s nomination for the 102nd Assembly District with 45.31% of the vote, compared with Greene County candidates Thomas Boomhower and Mary Finneran, with 27.42% and 25.14%, respectively. The 102nd Assembly District includes all of Greene and Schoharie Counties, as well as parts of Albany, Delaware, and Otsego Counties. Despite her win district-wide, Tweed came third in Greene County with just 27.51% of the vote, which was won by Boomhower with 39.12% followed by Finneran with 32.14%. Tweed will face Republican Marcus Molinaro in the Nov. 3 general election.
Woodstock: Rebekah Brooks won the Democratic nomination for Town Clerk with 53.57% of the vote, compared with 46.43% for incumbent Meghann Reimondo.
In the race for town councilperson, Marcel Nagele defeated Daniel Gallant 59.75% to 40.25%.
For town justice, Jason Lesko defeated Howard Harris, with Lesko garnering 59.90% of the vote compared to Harris’s 40.10%.
The primary drew 1,322 voters, or 34.63% of the town’s registered Democrats.
Hurley: In the Town Clerk contest, incumbent Lynnee Bailey defeated challenger Diana Cline. Bailey received 63.76% of the vote compared with Cline’s 36.24%.
The race for superintendent of highways was closer. John Wiacek scored 53.04% of the vote to beat incumbent Michael Shultis, who received 46.96%.
Some 670 Democrats voted, representing 28.07% of the town’s registered Democrats.
Hurley Democrats also voted on who will represent Hurley in the Ulster County Democratic Committee. Hurley has eight election districts and each selects two representatives for the committee. Seven of the eight districts had elections and the seats were filled by the two candidates with the most votes.
In District 1, Zahava Wilson and Peter Humphries won the two seats, taking 40.43% and 28.72% of the vote respectively. They were trailed by Diane Genninger, at 15.96%, and Mark Goldfarb. With 14.89%.
In District 2, Diana Cline won 34.82% of the vote, followed by Cynthia Bishop with 33.04%. The two beat Andrew Zell, who received 32.14%.
In District 3, Patricia Ann Reed (32.84%) and John Wiacek (32.09%) won the two seats, defeating Michael Boms (20.15%) and Michael Shultis (14.93%).
In District 4, Lynne Bailey and Gregory Simpson secured their two seats with 40.80% and 37.60% of the votes respectively. They were followed by Jimmy Quigley with 12% and Craig Snyder, with 9.60%.
In District 5, Margaret Carey and Karen Gill won the two seats with 33.52% and 26.92% of the vote respectively, beating Mary Brosnan (22.53%) and Angela Schapiro (17.03%).
In District Seven, Jana Martin secured 35.47% of the vote and William B. McKnight followed with 28.49%. The two defeated Kate Hyman (22.09%) and Michael McKeon (13.95%).
In District 8, Nancy S. Garneau and Matt Jankowski garnered 33.61% and 25.41% of the vote, respectively, defeating Griffith Liewa (22.13%) and Hope Hughes (18.85%).
