Jordan Roquรฉ. Olivia Sippel/The Overlook.

On a sunny afternoon in Woodstock, I set out to find someone to talk toโ€”and met someone who helps others heal.

Jordan Roquรฉ sat quietly on a bench, calm and grounded. He is a certified Reiki teacher whoโ€™s been practicing since 2018โ€”guiding others toward healing through energy work rooted in the Japanese tradition of Reiki, which involves gentle touch or hands-off techniques to promote relaxation and support the bodyโ€™s natural healing process.

โ€œI think children are very spiritual. I used to see spirits when I was a little kid. I had experiences where I was floating out of my body and I could float around my room. And then I would have dreams about future events that would just come to pass. But when we grow up in this culture, you’re taught to doubt so many of your experiences that you stop experiencing them. So, I lost it. I was always still spiritual, but I lost connection to the energy, essentially. I think that the energy itself becomes a teacher, right? Because it’s the sensitivity to that is what teaches you, the relationship between that and all things.โ€
