The Olive Free Library Association will celebrate the grand opening of its new Shokan Branch on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Hall on Mountain Road. The event will include a ribbon cutting, music, food and community festivities.

The branch, more than a decade in the making, comes in response to community surveys calling for expanded access to library services in outlying areas of Olive. The Shokan Branch will begin with hours on Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering computers, printing, a notary service, and a curated book collection. Patrons will also be able to pick up and return Mid-Hudson Library System books.

Library Director Melissa McHugh credited support from local partners, including American Legion Commander Tom Planz and the Town of Oliveโ€™s Gene Sorbellini, for helping bring the project to life.
