Rebekah Brooks won the Democratic primary for Woodstock town clerk Tuesday, defeating acting town clerk Meghann Reimondo after receiving the endorsement of Woodstock Supervisor Anula Courtis.
Brooks received 53.57% of the vote to Reimondo’s 46.43%, according to preliminary results. The win puts Brooks on track to appear on the November ballot for a post held since September by Reimondo, a veteran of the town clerk’s office.
Reimondo, 46, has served as first deputy town clerk since the retirement of former town clerk Jackie Earley. Reimondo previously ran the Woodstock business MirasNaturals and now operates another local business, The Empowered Approach.
Brooks, 40, works for ICF, a government contractor that works under the Department of Health and Human Services. She has not held public office or been employed directly by a government agency. Brooks previously served as executive director of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival in Virginia and is a volunteer member of the Woodstock Housing Committee, an appointed position.
Courtis, a Democrat elected to the Woodstock Town Board in 2023 and elected supervisor in 2025, took on her latest role in January.
“My endorsement is based on the specific values and skills I believe are essential for the Town Clerk’s Office moving forward,” Courtis wrote in an email.
“I endorsed Rebekah because she has demonstrated the professionalism, collaboration, forward-thinking approach, and practical skills needed to improve systems, communication, and service to the public,” she wrote. “I have respect for anyone willing to step up and serve, but endorsements are about matching a candidate’s strengths to the needs of the office. For me, Rebekah is that match.”
Reimondo said Courtis has never complained to her about her work performance.
“I respect the supervisor’s right to endorse whomever she chooses,” Reimondo said. “What I’m focused on is serving the people of this town with integrity. I was appointed by resolution and I’ve done the work every day for the past nine months.”
Courtis refuted Reimondo’s contention about her performance concerns.
“The statement that I never raised concerns directly to the clerk’s office is simply not accurate,” she wrote in a text.
Brooks also touted her experience in making the case for her campaign.
“My professional experience has focused on process improvement, organization, detailed record-keeping, and modernizing systems,” she said. “For months, I’ve also consulted with several area clerks, and learned from their experiences in modernizing their offices and addressing the needs of their communities.”
In addition to the town clerk matchup, the contested Democratic primaries set for Tuesday are between Dan Gallant and Marcel Nagele for town board and Howard Harris and incumbent Jason Lesko for town justice. Lesko is endorsed by the Woodstock Democratic Committee.
