Residents gathered on the Village Green Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil honoring the late Georgia Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis, five years to the day after his death from pancreatic cancer at age 80.
The event, organized by Third Act Creatives, took place at 8:30 p.m. and featured remarks from local faith leaders and special guest Lacey Delgado, wife of Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado. The choral group Ars Choralis performed during the program.

Part of a nationwide day of action titled “Good Trouble Lives On,” the vigil celebrated Lewis’s legacy of nonviolent protest and civil disobedience in pursuit of racial and social justice. The phrase “good trouble,” coined by Lewis, has become a rallying cry for those continuing his work to protect voting rights and combat systemic injustice.
The Woodstock gathering was one of many held across the country Thursday evening, uniting citizens in reflection and recommitment to Lewis’s enduring call for peaceful action in the face of injustice.
